Akron police investigate teen mob attack on family

Akron police say they aren't ready to call it a hate crime or a gang initiation.
But to Marty Marshall, his wife and two kids, it seems pretty clear.
It came after a family night of celebrating America and freedom with a fireworks show at Firestone Stadium. Marshall, his family and two friends were gathered outside a friend's home in South Akron.
Out of nowhere, the six were attacked by dozens of teenage boys, who shouted ''This is our world'' and ''This is a black world'' as they confronted Marshall and his family.
The Marshalls, who are white, say the crowd of teens who attacked them and two friends June 27 on Girard Street numbered close to 50. The teens were all black.
''This was almost like being a terrorist act,'' Marshall said. ''And we allow this to go on in our neighborhoods?''
They said it started when one teen, without any words or warning, blindsided and assaulted Marshall's friend as he stood outside with the others.
When Marshall, 39, jumped in, he found himself being attacked by the growing group of teens.
His daughter, Rachel, 15, who weighs about 90 pounds, tried to come to his rescue. The teens pushed her to the ground.
His wife, Yvonne, pushed their son, Donald, 14, into bushes to keep him protected.
''My thing is,'' Marshall said, ''I didn't want this, but I was in fear for my wife, my kids and my friends. I felt I had to stay out there to protect them, because those guys were just jumping, swinging fists and everything.
''I'm lucky. They didn't break my ribs or bruise my ribs. I thank God, they concentrated on my thick head because I do have one. They were trying to take my head off my spine, basically.''
After several minutes of punches and kicks, the attack ended and the group ran off. The Marshalls' two adult male friends were not seriously hurt.
''I don't think I thought at that moment when I tried to jump in,'' Rachel Marshall said. ''But when I was laying on the ground, I was just scared.''
Marshall was the most seriously injured. He suffered a concussion and multiple bruises to his head and eye. He said he spent five nights in the critical care unit at Akron General Medical Center.
The construction worker said he now fears for his family's safety, and the thousands of dollars in medical bills he faces without insurance.
''I knew I was going to get beat, but not as bad as I did,'' Marshall said. ''But I did it to protect my family. I didn't have a choice. There was no need for this. We should be all getting along. But to me, it seems to be racist.''
Akron police are investigating. Right now, the case is not being classified as a racial hate crime. There were no other reports of victims assaulted by the group that night.
The department's gang unit is involved in the investigation, police said.
''We don't know if it's a known gang, or just a group of kids,'' police Lt. Rick Edwards said.
The Marshalls say they fear retaliation at home or when they go outside. They are considering arming themselves, but they're concerned about the possible problems that come with guns.
For now, they are hoping police can bring them suspects. They believe they can identify several of the attackers.
''This makes you think about your freedom,'' Marshall said. ''In all reality, where is your freedom when you have this going on?''

Officials eye North Korea as origin of cyber attack that showed US agencies unevenly prepared

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama is having better luck with the health industry than with his former colleagues in Congress in his push to overhaul the U.S. health care system.
On Wednesday, the nation's hospitals agreed to give up $155 billion in future payments to help defray the cost of Obama's plan, the latest major concession exacted by the White House. In recent weeks, U.S. pharmaceutical companies have agreed to cut costs for the elderly and help pay for the health care overhaul. Concessions from doctors could be next.
"Reform is coming. It is on track; it is coming. We have tried for decades to fix a broken system, and we have never, in my entire tenure in public life, been this close," Vice President Joe Biden said at the White House in announcing the hospital deal.
But details of the health care overhaul are being worked out by Congress, and lawmakers are far from united on how to overhaul the health care system and cover a cost expected to exceed $1 trillion over 10 years.
Timing is critical for Obama, who has made health care his top domestic priority. He has argued that medical costs rising into the trillions threaten to overwhelm the U.S. economy. Nearly 50 million Americans lack health insurance. Even for those with coverage, the rising price of health care takes a large chunk out of their monthly budgets.
Obama needs Congress to act quickly, knowing that lawmakers might be reluctant to vote on such a charged issue as health care closer to next year's midterm congressional elections.
He wants to sign a bill into law in October. That would leave lawmakers with a tough five-week stretch to draft legislation and vote on it before they leave for a one-month recess.
It also leaves little time to resolve differences not only between parties, but among the Democrats who control both chambers of Congress.
In the Senate, where Obama served before becoming president, Democrats have rebelled against a proposed new tax on generous health insurance benefits provided by some employers. Republicans favor the tax as a brake on cost increases. Without it, prospects for a bipartisan deal appear to be in jeopardy.
"I don't see it as having any viability," Sen. Christopher Dodd, a Democrat, said Wednesday of the proposed tax.
"We're not there yet," said another Democratic senator, Max Baucus. As chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Baucus has spent countless hours seeking a compromise with Republican colleagues. "I'm trying the best I can to get there soon."
Obama and Democrats would prefer a bipartisan bill, not only to ensure broader public support but to make it easier to get votes. While Democrats have a significant majority in the House, the defection of a few moderate Democrats in the Senate could doom the outlook for health care.
Unlike most developed countries, the United States lacks a taxpayer-funded health care system that covers most of its citizens. Americans rely on private insurance, often provided by their workplace.
Baucus has long championed a tax on health benefits to pay for health care while simultaneously restraining the growth of the cost of coverage. But the idea has drawn strong opposition from organized labor, a core Democratic constituency. Democrats in the House of Representatives have been highly resistant, too, and Obama campaigned hard against it in last year's run for the White House.
Obama has largely let Congress work out specifics of the bill, but he has offered general guidelines. He favors creation of a government-run plan to compete with private insurers, which Republican lawmakers maintain would drive private companies out of business. The president would provide subsidies to low-income people to help them get insurance.
In courting the health care industry, Obama is trying to avoid the conflicts that doomed President Bill Clinton's attempt to overhaul health care in the 1990s.
The administration has reached out to various groups -- drug makers, major employers, doctors and the hospitals -- not only to get their backing, but to persuade them to give up some of the fees they are likely to receive.
The administration's argument is simple: The millions of uninsured Americans who would get coverage in the next few years would add up to a huge new group of customers, possible sources of income for the industry.
Last week, Wal-Mart, the world's largest private employer, broke with other big firms and said it supports a requirement in the proposal for many companies to offer health care to their workers.
Yet the deal with hospitals announced Wednesday also may be on shaky ground. Officials said it is pegged to the Senate Finance Committee legislation that Baucus is negotiating, and whose prospects are uncertain.
Even though Obama was traveling overseas in Europe, his top aides were making his intentions clear in congressional offices. White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel did not make the trip with Obama and instead met with lawmakers trying to write health care legislation.

Right-wing extremists face extra scrutiny

Even before Wednesday's fatal shooting of a security guard purportedly by a white supremacist at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, right-wing extremists have come under increased scrutiny.
In April, the Department of Homeland Security came under fire for a report that warned of disgruntled war veterans getting involved with radical right-wing groups, and in 2006, the Anti-Defamation League reported an increase in racist skinhead groups. Earlier this year, the Southern Poverty Law Center indicated a 54 percent increase in so-called "hate groups" from 2000 to 2008.
The opinions of several experts contacted by The Washington Times on Wednesday differed when it came to questions about whether membership in such groups are increasing. But all agreed they present a serious threat.
"I am more concerned with the threat from the Christian-identity groups than the homegrown Islamic terrorists," said Maria Haberfeld, a professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. "It's a disaster waiting to happen. The fact that this guy did what he did may be symptomatic of things to come."
Ms. Haberfeld, who teaches a counterterrorism class for New York police officers, said she worries that local law enforcement agencies do not keep close enough tabs on such groups and that the Internet allows them to put forth an extreme rhetoric that advocates violence.
Carol Swain, a law professor at Vanderbilt University and the author of "The New White Nationalism in America," said that such writings on the Internet can help inspire a so-called "lone wolf," who is not formally involved with any group, to carry out violent acts.
She said there are conditions in the nation that can lead to an increase in white supremacists, including decreasing white population, increased immigration, fear of minority crime and loss of jobs.
Ken Piernick, a retired FBI agent who worked on terrorism cases, said recent acts of violence by right-wing extremists, such as the killing of abortion doctor George Tiller, comes after a years-long lull in similar cases, including the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
"I would expect based on their sentiments that [President] Obama's election would probably contribute to a bit of that," he said. "These people are not rational; they don't think of the consequences of what they do. They're not particularly smart people."
Mr. Piernick said that while others may share in the ideology of right-wing extremism, acts similar to the museum shooting are rare because most people have a natural revulsion to violence.
"I can imagine all of sudden [authorities] are going to start paying attention to right-wing extremists again," he said.
Mike German, a former FBI agent who worked cases against white supremacists and now works at the American Civil Liberties Union, said that authorities focus too broadly when monitoring such groups. He said authorities too often incorrectly focus on what members of groups think instead of what they have done.
Mr. German said that many people may share the ideology of the suspect in the museum shooting case - 88-year-old James W. von Brunn - but it was the suspect's history of violence that was the best indicator of Wednesday's attack.
"I think if you look at the amount of violence, over the years white supremacist and other extremists have been involved in violence for decades," he said. "I think we have to be careful in focusing on the conduct and not on the ideologies."

Since the people in the Little Rock mosque are claiming not to know him, it is all the more unlikely that they will not take it upon themselves to explain, either to non-Muslims or to Muslims, exactly how he is getting Islam and jihad wrong.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A Muslim convert charged with fatally shooting an American soldier at a military recruiting center said Tuesday that he doesn't consider the killing a murder because U.S. military action in the Middle East made the killing justified.
"I do feel I'm not guilty," Abdulhakim Muhammad told The Associated Press in a collect call from the Pulaski County jail. "I don't think it was murder, because murder is when a person kills another person without justified reason."...
"Yes, I did tell the police upon my arrest that this was an act of retaliation, and not a reaction on the soldiers personally," Muhammad said. He called it "a act, for the sake of God, for the sake of Allah, the Lord of all the world, and also a retaliation on U.S. military."
In the interview, Muhammad also disputed his lawyer's claim that he had been "radicalized" in a Yemeni prison and said fellow prisoners that some call terrorists were actually "very good Muslim brothers."
He also said he didn't specifically plan the shootings that morning.
"It's been on my mind for awhile. It wasn't nothing planned really. It was just the heat of the moment, you know," said Muhammad, who was arrested on a highway shortly after the attack....
Muhammad, 23, said he wanted revenge for claims that American military personnel had desecrated copies of the Quran and killed or raped Muslims. "For this reason, no Muslim, male or female, sane or insane, little, big, small, old can accept or tolerate," he said.
He said the U.S. military would never treat Christians and their Scriptures in the same manner.
No, they burn those.
"U.S. soldiers are killing innocent Muslim men and women. We believe that we have to strike back. We believe in eye for an eye. We don't believe in turning the other cheek," he said.
Asked whether he considered the shootings at the recruiting center an act of war, Muhammad said "I didn't know the soldiers personally, but yes, it was an attack of retaliation. And I feel that other attacks, not by me or people I know, but definitely Muslims in this country and others elsewhere, are going to attack for doing those things they did," especially desecrating the Quran....
True to form in such cases, no Muslim in his area has ever heard of this guy:
Muhammad had moved to Arkansas in the spring to work at his father's bus tour company and had never attended the Islamic Center of Little Rock, a mosque frequented by most of the area's Muslims, said Iftikhar Pathan, the center's president.
Pathan said he spoke with most of the nearly 300 people who attend Friday prayers at the mosque and no one knew him. Those at the mosque also spoke with FBI agents in the days immediately after the shooting, he said.
"What he had in his mind, God knows," Pathan said.
Last week, Hensley said his client, born Carlos Bledsoe, had been tortured and "radicalized" in a Yemeni prison after entering the country to teach English. He was held there for immigration violations, and Yemeni officials have denied mistreatment.
"Those claims ... are all lies," Muhammad said Tuesday. "That never happened in Yemen. The officials dealt with me in a gentle way."

Former Vice President Dick Cheney said Monday that the only alternative to holding some suspected terrorists indefinitely would be to execute them, arguing against the Obama administration's plans to close the Guantanamo detainee prison. "If you're going to be engaged in a world conflict such as we are, such as the global war on terrorism, if you don't have a place where you can hold these people, your only other option is to kill them," Mr. Cheney said. "And we don't operate that way." The former vice president's statements only raise the stakes in fierce debate with his critics, who believe Mr. Cheney presided over the formulation of interrogation techniques that they regard as torture and remains unapologetic for approving waterboarding and other harsh methods used. Mr. Cheney bases his argument on the view that suspected terrorists should be considered prisoners of war and said such persons "ought to be held until the end of the conflict. He also criticized the Obama administration for failing to think through its plans to shutter Guantanamo. "The administration made a mistake of the president issuing an order that he wants it closed within a year, but didn't have a clue as to how to proceed," Mr. Cheney said. "And now they're having trouble because they're having to come up with a plan of some kind." Mr. Cheney, who has become the most prominent figure to defend the Bush administration's record on terror and national security, spoke and took questions at a lunch honoring journalism award winners at the National Press Club. The former vice president said that the Guantanamo Bay prison is "a fine facility" and that the White House will have a "very difficult" time closing it, because of the legal, political and diplomatic challenges associated with indefinite detention. Mr. Obama has indicated that even after Guantanamo's closure, the government will still hold some detainees in prolonged detention. He has also restarted the military commissions process to try some detainees there instead of in civilian courts, following a Bush-era policy. In arguing for the continued use of Guantanamo, Mr. Cheney cited recent press reports that said about 14 percent of the more than 500 prisoners released from Guantanamo have returned to what he called that jihad business. However, more recent reporting has indicated that the recidivism rate among freed detainees is likely much lower. Mr. Obama's decision to close Guantanamo, however, was praised by Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu during a visit to Washington. For the psychological atmosphere the symbolic issues are important, Mr. Davutoglu said during an interview with a small group of journalists at his Washington hotel. Many things in our region are psychological. But on the domestic political front, one of the leading contenders for the Republican nomination to run against Mr. Obama in 2012, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, took aim at the president's foreign policy and defense budget cuts. Mr. Romney characterized Mr. Obama's last two trips abroad as a tour of apology and criticized signs from the White House that they might back off a missile defense system in Eastern Europe. "Arrogant, delusional tyrants can't be stopped by earnest words and furrowed brows," Mr. Romney said. "Action, strong bold action coming from a position of strength and determination, is the only effective deterrent." North Korea and Iran were two of the topics that Mr. Cheney admitted the Bush administration did fall short on. We didn't bat 1,000. No question about it. And Iran and North Korea are still out there, Mr. Cheney said in response to a question about the growth of nuclear programs in both regimes during the eight years that Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney were in office. I wish we could have done more, but those are problems that are passed on to the next administration. But Mr. Cheney did assign responsibility to the CIA for both the pre-war intelligence prior to the invasion of Iraq, and for proposing the enhanced interrogation techniques that have been the cause of so much controversy. The former vice president also said that al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is not the threat he once was. I don't think he can have much impact in terms of managing the organization, because that link between Obama and the people under him is pretty fragile, Mr. Cheney said, inserting the president's first name for bin Laden's, a gaffe committed in the past by numerous politicians. DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS Updated Thursday, May 21st 2009, 11:59 AM  Keivom/News James Cromitie is the alleged leader of the plot, the criminal complaint states.  Keivom/News David Williams was one of three others busted with Cromitie. The idea was to create a "fireball that would make the country gasp," one law enforcement said. Little did they know the plastic explosives packed into their car bombs and the plane-downing Stinger missile in their backseat were all phony - supplied by undercover agents posing as Pakistani militants linked to Al Qaeda. "If there can be any good news from this terror scare it's that this group was relatively unsophisticated, penetrated early, and not connected to another terrorist group," said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). "This incident shows that we must always be vigilant against terrorism, foreign or domestic." The suspects - three U.S.-born citizens and one Haitian immigrant - at least three of whom were said to be jailhouse converts to Islam, were angry about the deaths of Muslims in Afghanistan, sources told The News. "They wanted to make a statement," a law enforcement source said. "They were filled with rage and wanted to take it out on what they considered the source of all problems in America - the Jews." The group's alleged ringleader, James Cromitie, according to the complaint, discussed targets with an undercover agent. "The best target [the World Trade Center] was hit already," he allegedly told the agent. Later, he rejoiced in a terrorist attack on a synagogue. "I hate those motherf-----s, those f---ing Jewish bastards. . . . I would like to get [destroy] a synagogue." The men allegedly parked car bombs wired to cell phones outside the Riverdale Temple and nearby Riverdale Jewish Center. They were also heading to Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, Orange County, when the law swooped in on them. Sources said their plan was to shoot down a cargo plane headed to Iraq or Afghanistan with a surface-to-air guided missile while simultaneously calling the cell phones and blowing up the Riverdale synagogues. Sources said the four men were arrested after a year-long investigation that began when an informant connected to a mosque in Newburgh said he knew men who wanted to buy explosives. FBI agents supplied them with what they billed as C-4 plastic explosives and a Stinger missile. The weaponry was all phony. "The bombs had been made by FBI technicians," said Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly. "They were totally inert." Witnesses said an NYPD 18-wheeler blocked a black SUV on Independence Ave. in Riverdale and then officers broke in the darkened windows and yanked out the four men from inside the car. At a news conference outside the Bronx temple Thursday, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly quoted one of the men as saying, "If Jews were killed in this attack ... that would be all right." Of course it would be, as far as he was concerned. After all, his holy book tells him: "Strongest among men in enmity to the believers wilt thou find the Jews..." -- Qur'an 5:82 Yet nevertheless here is the obligatory Exoneration of Islam: However, Mayor Michael Bloomberg warned against stereotypes. He stressed that the Riverdale Temple is open to people of all faiths, including a Muslim girl who sometimes prays there. This one is eye-rollingly ridiculous. The jihadists targeted a synagogue and spoke of wanting to kill Jews, and indeed, killing Jews in Islamic eschatology is a good and encouraged thing -- remember the hadith about how Muslims killing Jews hastens the coming of the end times -- but look! A Muslim girl sometimes prayed in this synagogue! (Who? When? Why?) Therefore this planned attack has nothing to do with Islam, you see! Because what Muslim would plot to kill another Muslim? But did the jihadists know the Muslim girl prayed there? Would they have cared, or just seen her as collateral damage and considered themselves to be hastening her ascent to Paradise? Does this girl's alleged occasional presence in the synagogue really nullify the Islamic Jew-hatred that was clearly part of the motivation for this attack? Does Bloomberg even think about what he is saying before he says it? Radio host Savage always up for a fightBy Jennifer Harper (Contact) Sunday, May 17, 2009 Shouts, warnings, directives, threats, a stray explosion or two. There's sudden silence, eloquent commentary, a plaintive oath — then a fierce laugh born of old New York. It is tough and merry, both wise and wise guy. Batten down the hatches. Duck and cover. Michael Savage is on the airwaves, delivering his rapid-fire message over 400 radio stations, three hours a day, five days a week. He has fought the good fight for 15 years, flanked by his 10 million weekly listeners who now consider themselves the "Savage Nation." Savage Battalion, more like. They rally behind the laserlike takes on immigration, white males, cheeky liberals, wimpy conservatives, media bias, cultural wars, porous borders, Iraq, Afghanistan, terrorism, same-sex marriage, corrupt Hollywood, junk science, big medicine, big government, scurrilous officials. Mr. Savage is generous with personal memories. He pouts. He is giddy. The loyal audience steps to the Savage drumbeat, they salute a man who is often at the center of a lawsuit, a boycott or public outrage. "I do it because I do it. I speak, therefore I am," Mr. Savage says. And that is it, the whole battle plan. "People come to me because they know I will tell them the truth. The price is that you give your heart and soul every day. Every day. And in order to get there, you get thrown in the cauldron," he continues. "And a man emerges from that cauldron, and he is case hardened." Mr. Savage has been in many, many cauldrons over the years. This is a man who has described himself as "right of Rush Limbaugh, and left of God." He invented the phrase "compassionate conservative" 15 years ago, though it later became a rallying cry in the Republican quest for the White House. Gay advocates continue to call him a bigot or a fascist. Mr. Savage has wrangled with the Roman Catholic Church for its humanitarian support of illegal immigrants. He accused the Council on American-Islamic Relations of maintaining ties to terrorists (CAIR), then sued them. The group in turn organized an advertising and listener boycott — a favorite method among Savage critics to defame him. The cauldron du jour, though, is the entire British government. On May 4, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith included Mr. Savage on a list of 22 terrorists, criminals and other undesirables who were no longer welcome in the country. She claimed that the radio host was "fomenting hatred" and could prompt "intercommunity tension." The event galvanized the press, not to mention a slew of free-speech advocates and the Savage Nation itself. Their hero was primed to be savage, though. Mr. Savage called Mrs. Smith a lunatic, witch, Bolshevik, low-life and a tin-pot dictator among other things — then sued her for defamation of character, calling upon his listeners to cancel travel plans to Britain and boycott British goods. "She painted a target on my back," he says. Mr. Savage is appealing to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to have his name stricken from the list, using the Thomas More Law Center as an intermediary. Meanwhile, defenders emerged, including the American Radio Free Speech Coalition and — curiously — CAIR. "Even though we have challenged Michael Savage's hate speech and even ran an advertising campaign against his show, we still do not back this ban from Britain based on principle, not based on the man himself. We believe freedom of speech is a two-way street," notes CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper. The situation is complex and full of competing dynamics — just like Mr. Savage himself. He was born to a humble household in Queens just as World War II had taken a patriotic hold of the American home front. He earned a bachelor of science degree in biology, taught in a local high school and later arrived at the University of California at Berkley, eventually to earn a Ph.D. in epidemiology and two masters in medical botany. He wrote 20 books and hung out with the likes of Timothy Leary, Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. His left-leaning politics shifted in the 1980s. Troubled by the AIDS epidemic and emerging health threats posed by immigrants, Mr. Savage took his pronounced views to the radio realm, landing his own show in 1994. In recent years, Mr. Savage has written five political books: "The Savage Nation," "The Enemy Within: Saving America From the Liberal Assault on Our Schools, Faith, and Military," "Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder," "The Political Zoo" and "Psychological Nudity." "You know what I did? I prayed to God to send me a living. Please God, give me a living, and low and behold He did. I've found that the only thing that matters is survival. So I learned how to survive," Mr. Savage says. "Whether you agree with him or not, Michael Savage is one of the most listened to talk-show hosts in the industry. He is as funny as he is controversial. You can take him as a political bomb thrower or a Borscht belt entertainer," says Michael Harrison, founder of Talkers Magazine, an industry publication that tracks talk radio. "He's incredibly intelligent and very entertaining. One of his best qualities is that he's an original in an industry where so many people imitate each other. Savage marches to his own beat." And for all of his brilliant caterwaul, Mr. Savage is reduced to utter tenderness at the thought of Teddy, his diminutive, fuzzy gray poodle. "If anything inspires me, sustains me, it's the dog. Maybe spaghetti, too. But the dog, Teddy. He gives me such pleasure. How can anything so small have so much personality? Maybe I just don't like people anymore," Mr. Savage says. Yet he is there for his audience. Always. At 67, Michael Savage still ignores the comforting calls of the Barcalounger in favor of a no-nonsense chair in front of a microphone — supplying a seamless daily show for Talk Radio Network, an Oregon-based syndication company that includes Laura Ingraham, Tammy Bruce and "Mancow" in its stable of talent. "Do I know what I'm going to do, where I'm going to be in five years?" Mr. Savage asks, and there's passion in that voice, along with a certain wry demeanor that comes from living almost seven decades on Planet Earth. Anyonw who knows what is going on in the E-Discovery field knows that problem facing Legal Education and students today: - Competent Instruction in E-Discovery is sorely needed
- Competent Instructors are Difficult, if not impossible to find
- The "Old School" Law Professor are still fighting tool and nail to defend their turf
I realized this over a year ago which is WHY the Roosevelt University Paralegal Legal Technology course was so important - I THOUGHT I COULD GET COMPETENT INSTRUCTION IN THIS AREA - but I was wrong.
The first half of this course, which covered MS Office 2007 went well but the second, which was scheduled to cover the Lexix CaseMap Suite, Concordance and Summation was a total disasters and waste of time.
Professor Jim Fine, though an excellelt law professor was in over his head, tying to teach Concordance 2008 though I knew it better than he did and reading from s script. Since he was WRITING A BOOK for Lexis and UPDATING THE PEOLSI CASE for the NITA folks the SUBJECT OF THESE PROGRAMS WAS VERY POORELY COVERED.
The two classes dedicated to SUMMATION were a DISASTER since the RU licence had expired so we did not cover this program AT All - it was a waste of time.
Though I have been a HONORS LEVEL STUDENT and have been involved with PC's for 27 years, and though I had prepared for this course for A YEAR I was given only a PASSING GRADE - which I "missed" by only two points.
I QUESTIONED THE GRADE - but since Professor Fine is A FULL TIME PROFESSOR WITH TENURE I was in big trouble. The next thing I know is that RU Security has the SECRET SERVICE COME TO MY HOME and then I AM BANNED FROM CAMPUS AND CANNOT REGISTER FOR THE ONE COURSE I NEED TO COMPLETE THIS ABA APPROVED PROGRAM.

THE SAVAGE DREAM
I have a dream. I have a dream that one day free men and women will be judged not on the correctness of their political views, but on the content of their character. I have a dream that all the mindless mandarins that plague the body politick in all nations will be driven out of all their little cubicles in all massive faceless government buildings around the world. I have a dream that they will be made to answer for all the vile petty judgments that they have placed on others. That they will be called to account for all the careers and livelihoods that they have taken away. That they will reap the just rewards of all the suicidal insanity that they have sown.
I have a dream that one day, all the people of the world will rise up and throw off the shackles that small-minded malcontents have placed on them, and that they will be free to enjoy the fruits of their own labor and their own ideas in a way they best see fit. I have a dream that one day I will sail a ship filled with such men and women, those with free and open minds, on the same route over the Atlantic Ocean taken by American convoys as they went to resupply the British in World War Two and fortify them against the Nazi menace.
I have a dream that this ship will land in England, dock in England, and I will set foot on British soil, and say, “Tear down this wall that you have placed before me. Tear down this wall against freedom of speech.” And I have a dream that then the people of England, inspired by the glory of their fathers before them, will stand up, tear down the wall of ignorance which has stood against them for so long, and declare with one voice “This is the land of Winston Churchill once more.”
THE SAVAGE EFFECT
We have talked about how the midstream media picked up the story of Michael Savage being banned from Britain. How even the liberal CNN started talking about it right away. How the leftist media of Great Britain was introduced to Michael Savage at one fell swoop, and how Fixed News under unrelenting pressure from its viewers, finally had to deal with the story even though Bill O’Reilly only grudgingly mentioned my name.
What we’re finding out now though is that an online revolution of sorts was triggered by Jacqui Smith’s decision to ban me from Britain. According to Foreign Policy magazine, it created a viral tsunami which completely defeated the intent of the British government’s attempt to suppress my freedom of speech. Websites such as Facebook, Youtube and Twitter came alive with commentary about the Savage ban. According to a website that tracks discussions on Twitter, conversations about Michael Savage and his being banned from Britain hit a huge spike the day after the travel ban was announced. Foreign Policy magazine even coined a new term “The Savage Effect,” which it describes as a phenomenon in which efforts to limit the dissemination of information in the analog form backfire and are trumped by the viral power of digital communications.
So by trying to strike me down, they have made me more powerful. By trying to push me off the old line forms of media communication, they have only made me that much more popular in new forms. What they failed to understand is that though for a short time they may be able to control the midstream media and who comes into the country, they cannot control the new Samizdat, the new literature that the mainstream establishment considers to be subversive. Somalia Solution Now that the latest Terrorist attack has been ended and three Islamic Terrorist are burning in Hell attention must turn to a solution of this dilemma. For this, we have only to look to our proud naval history. Thomas Jefferson knew how to end the scourge of Barbary piracy; he bombarded their ports and sunk as many ships as possible until the 19th Century Muslim pirates could take no more and surrendered. We must do the same and learn from history. Even the news media knows where these international bandits sail from and have their bases; the handful of ports they use is well known to all, just as the bases were in Jefferson’s day. Our nascent Navy bombarded those ports and a young Marine Corps went ashore to kill the Muslim killers. The stratagem never changed; Jefferson just kept pounding away at them until they agreed to SUBMIT TO OUR WILL – which was simply for FREEDOM OF THE SEAS. We can and must do the same. There are NO Legal considerations. Somalia has NO LAWS and the “Pirates” are NON-STATE ACTORS, i..e. UNLAWFUL ENEMY COMBATANTS like the AQ Scum buckets. In order to minimize any ‘civilian’ casualties, the ports and ships can be bombed at night – sink them before they can continue. The Barbary Wars redux: Muslim terrorists at sea 13 April 2009: The mainstream media will not tell you that the recent attack against the U.S. merchant ship off the coast of Somalia was an act of Islamic terrorism, but it was, and it’s not new. Quite simply, the majority of Americans have forgotten U.S. history despite the presence of a large monument in front of the U.S. Naval Academy to remind us. That is the Tripoli Monument, the oldest military monument in the U.S., honoring the heroes of the First Barbary War. Following the Revolutionary War, American commerce ships sailing in the open waters of the Mediterranean were being attacked and destroyed by Muslim pirates, led by the “Dey of Algiers,” the Islamic warlord ruler of Algiers. The Muslim pirates were vicious, taking the mostly Christian crews as hostages. At that time, America had no navy to protect the ships and was virtually powerless to fight against the savage attacks. In 1784, the Continental Congress negotiated with the four Barbary States of North Africa (Morocco, Tripoli, Algiers and Tunis) in an effort to stop the piracy. At first, America paid protection money - $18,000 a year - to allow our ships to proceed unmolested by the pirates of Barbary. As demonstrated in this case, succumbing to the demands of extortion never works out very well. Those who extort always want more, and payment of protection money is always a sign of weakness. Like today, the leaders of America in the late 1700’s tried to settle the piracy issue through diplomacy. As such, two American diplomats, Thomas Jefferson, then the American ambassador to France, and John Adams, the American ambassador to Britain, were dispatched to London in 1786 in an attempt to resolve the piracy issue. They met with Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja, the “Dey of Algiers” ambassador to Britain. It was during that meeting in London when Jefferson asked the Muslim ambassador why Muslims held so much hostility towards America, a nation they had virtually no contact with at that time. The answer is as relevant today as it was in 1786 - perhaps even more so. Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja stated : “Islam was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Qur’an, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Muslim who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise.”
Sound familiar? In 1786, diplomacy could not resolve piracy on the high seas due to the religious motivation of the pirates. America paid the leaders of the Muslim pirates millions of dollars as protection money through 1801, until America, with Thomas Jefferson as President said “enough.” Not long after he was elected, he sent a group of American frigates to defeat the pirates. under the motto “Millions for defense, but not one cent for tribute!” Our navy did so, and after winning numerous battles in North Africa through the heroic efforts of our men in uniform, the piracy against our ships stopped. The tribute to the bravery of the men who fought in the battle of the first Barbary War standing in front of the U.S. Naval Academy should serve as a reminder to all Americans how to deal with Islamic piracy against U.S. ships. Do our leaders have the same resolve, the same fortitude to deal with this problem as our forefathers did? They certainly showed us how, now all we have to do is follow their lead. The rest can be, as they say, history. |

| Obama, Law and the beaches of Normandy The refusal of Chairman Hussein to visit the graves of the thousands of brave American who laid down their lives during the Greatest Invasion that history had even seen is much more than an insult to all of the men and women that serve our great nation. This shocking arrogance gives us an insight into the Chairman's psychology and a chance to learn some real history at the same time. Dr. Michael Savage has begun and continues to analyze the Oedipus complex that young Barry was afflicted with, as a result of the dope-smoking liberal whore, "Stanley" that brought him into the world. As the Greatest Nation dies off, chances to share some real stories vanish so I'd like to shed some light on another of the motivations for this grave insult to our fallen heroes and all Americans. Though the Chairman stated that he "did not want to offend" Germans, his real motivation was to AVOID OFFENDING THE LAZY DUMB NEGROES, none of which died during this epic battle. Take a good look at the list of WHO FOUGHT AND WON THE GREATEST CONFLICT IN HISTORY – it was NOT THE NEGRO! Take a good look at the names on the headstones in not just WWII Cemeteries, but ALL cemeteries of America's fallen heroes in Arms. YOU WILL FIND ONLY A HANDFUL OF NEGROS. The media and educational uber-liberals have saturated us with sagas of the Tuskeegee airmen and their contribution is valued but look at the REAL STORY: of the 13,000,000 American men and women under arms in 1945, less than one tenth of one percent were Negros, and half of them were normally in the brig. Here's the real story: My late father, George M Weinert IV (b 1914 d 1989) was stationed at the US Army Induction Station in late 1941, near Van Buren and Canal in Chicago, Ill. Since he was part of the Quartermaster Corps (he typed 90 wpm so was placed in the office and later Catery Corps (teachers)) part of his job was to interview new draftees and type up their profiles. When a group of new men came into the Army's Induction Center, they were required to strip naked and stand in a row so their basic physical condition could be evaluated; this was known as "short arm" Inspection (for obvious reasons). When a group of Negros was processed, one if four was dismissed due to advanced venereal disease. Since most were unable to read and write (as half of today's Negroes remain illiterate) many were simply found to be too dumb for even cannon fodder. A few were finally selected as cooks and porters. In 1945, my father was assigned to the offices of General Douglas MacArthur in Manilla, Phillipines. The invading force had a group of approximately 100 husky Negros who were assigned guard duty to secure the perimeters of the camp. The City of Manilla, like many old Asian cities, consisted on an ancient, walled inner section, surrounded by more recent housing. The Negroes were assigned to guard the inner section of old Manilla, since many of the Phillipino men were brave fighters who had survived the occupation of the Japs, who were still being fought with in the hills outside of the city. One night, the inner part of the camp erupted in shouting and gunfire. It was a real battle; it seems that the Phillipino soldiers had returned home early and found that their wives were sleeping with the Negros who had been assigned to guard the inner city. When the shooting stopped, it was learned that the Negro 'guards" had told the Phillipino women "we is special night fighters" in order to impress them and get into their pants. Within a week, most of the 100 Negro 'guards' were dead at the hands of the enraged husbands. Forget the politically correct lies and look at the real history in the nation's military graveyards: · Take a good look at the list of war dead from all WWII Battles – you won'f find many Negros · Take a good look at the list of war dead from all Korean war Battles – you won'f find many Negros · Take a good look at the list of war dead from all Viet Nam War Battles – you won'f find many Negros · Take a good look at the list of war dead from all Gulf War Battles – you won'f find many Negros · Take a good look at the list of war dead from all Iraq War battles – you won'f find many Negros Take a good look at the living as well, the brave Americans serving in Iraq andAfghanistan; there are not many Negros in this group either. Chairman Hussein could care less about the Germans – Obama did not want to OFFEND THE NEGROS! What does that have to with the Law? If it were NOT FOR THE 250,000 BRAVE AMERICANS WHO DIED AT NORMANDY, IWO JIMA, OKINAWA and hundreds of other unsung fights there WOULD BE NO AMERICAN LAW! Face it folks, this imposter is not on the side of America: he's a World Government stooge and the Muslim Manchurian Candidate, as his actions of the last few days prove conclusively. First of all I must say something to those who have written to my wife or myself in these last weeks to tell us of their gratitude for my efforts and to assure us of their prayers for my success. Most of these letters have come from women -- mothers or sisters of our own countrymen. But there are countless others besides -- from France, from Belgium, from Italy, even from Germany, and it has been heartbreaking to read of the growing anxiety they reveal and their intense relief when they thought, too soon, that the danger of war was past. If I felt my responsibility heavy before, to read such letters has made it seem almost overwhelming. How horrible, fantastic, incredible it is that we should be digging trenches and trying on gas masks here because of a quarrel in a far-away country between people of whom we know nothing. It seems still more impossible that a quarrel which has already been settled in principle should be the subject of war. I can well understand the reasons why the Czech Government have felt unable to accept the terms which have been put before them in the German memorandum. Yet I believe after my talks with Herr Hitler that, if only time were allowed, it ought to be possible for the arrangements for transferring the territory that the Czech Government has agreed to give to Germany to be settled by agreement under conditions which would assure fair treatment to the population concerned. . . . However much we may sympathize with a small nation confronted by a big and powerful neighbor, we cannot in all circumstances undertake to involve the whole British Empire in war simply on her account. If we have to fight it must be on larger issues than that. I am myself a man of peace to the depths of my soul. Armed conflict between nations is a nightmare to me; but if I were convinced that any nation had made up its mind to dominate the world by fear of its force, I should feel that it must be resisted. Under such a domination life for people who believe in liberty would not be worth living; but war is a fearful thing, and we must be very clear, before we embark upon it, that it is really the great issues that are at stake, and that the call to risk everything in their defense, when all the consequences are weighed, is irresistible. For the present I ask you to await as calmly as you can the events of the next few days. As long as war has not begun, there is always hope that it may be prevented, and you know that I am going to work for peace to the last moment. Good night. . . . * * * * * Since I first went to Berchtesgaden more than 20,0000 letters and telegrams have come to No. 10, Downing Street. Of course, I have been able to look at a tiny fraction of them, but I have seen enough to know that the people who wrote did not feel that they had such a cause for which to fight, if they were asked to go to war in order that the Sudeten Germans might not join the Reich. That is how they are feeling. That is my answer to those who say that we should have told Germany weeks ago that, if her army crossed the border of Czechoslovakia, we should be at war with her. We had no treaty obligations and no legal obligations to Czechoslovakia and if we had said that, we feel that we should have received no support from the people of this country. . . . When we were convinced, as we became convinced, that nothing any longer would keep the Sudetenland within the Czechoslovakian State, we urged the Czech Government as strongly as we could to agree to the cession of territory, and to agree promptly. The Czech Government, through the wisdom and courage of President Benes, accepted the advice of the French Government and ourselves. It was a hard decision for anyone who loved his country to take, but to accuse us of having by that advice betrayed the Czechoslovakian State is simply preposterous. What we did was to save her from annihilation and give her a chance of new life as a new State, which involves the loss of territory and fortifications, but may perhaps enable her to enjoy in the future and develop a national existence under a neutrality and security comparable to that which we see in Switzerland to-day. Therefore, I think the Government deserve the approval of this House for their conduct of affairs in this recent crisis which has saved Czechoslovakia from destruction and Europe from Armageddon. Does the experience of the Great War and the years that followed it give us reasonable hope that, if some new war started, that would end war any more than the last one did? One good thing, at any rate, has come out of this emergency through which we have passed. It has thrown a vivid light upon our preparations for defense, on their strength and on their weakness. I should not think we were doing our duty if we had not already ordered that a prompt and thorough inquiry should be made to cover the whole of our preparations, military and civil, in order to see, in the light of what has happened during these hectic days, what further steps may be necessary to make good our deficiencies in the shortest possible time. (CNN) -- At least one gunman began shooting Friday in an immigration services building in Binghamton, New York, killing at least 12 people, Gov. David Paterson said.  Emergency personnel attend to a person taken from the building where the shootings took place. A gunman is among the dead, law enforcement officials said. The law enforcement source said more than a dozen were wounded. Two people were seen being led from the building in plastic handcuffs, WBNG reported. It was not immediately known whether the two were under arrest. The shootings began around 10:30 a.m. ET at the American Civic Association, which helps immigrants and refugees, the source said. The source said there may have been 20 to 40 people taken hostage. The local newspaper, the Press & Sun-Bulletin, said on its Web site that at least four people were shot and 41 people had been taken hostage. Video from the scene showed a person on a stretcher being taken to an ambulance.
